English for Chatting and Social Media

DMs, comments and captions โ€” the casual English Indians actually use online, with do-and-dont tips.

Online English is relaxed but has rules.

Common short forms

lol (laughing), brb (be right back), idk (I don't know), tbh (to be honest), imo (in my opinion).

Do

  • Keep it short.
  • Use emoji to show tone.
  • Reply within a day.

Don't

  • Use too many abbrevs with bosses.
  • Write in all caps (looks like shouting).
  • Send one-word "k" to close (feels rude). Use "okay, talk later."

Captions

"Sunset vibes โ˜€๏ธ" works. Add a question to get replies: "Best beach near Mumbai?"

Practice

Write 3 casual messages on SpeakNow's text-to-speech to hear natural flow.

Casual English still needs correct basics. Don't drop grammar fully.
