What Data We Collect
We collect limited information to operate, improve, and support advertising on the website. We do not require you to create an account or provide personal information to use SpeakNow.
- No accounts required — We do not ask for your name, email address, or other personal information to access the website or use the practice tools.
- Google Analytics — We use Google Analytics to collect information about how visitors use our website, such as pages visited, time spent on the site, device type, browser, approximate geographic location, and other aggregated usage statistics. This information helps us understand website performance and improve the user experience.
- Google Ads / AdSense — We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies (such as the Advertising ID and local storage) to personalize ads, measure ad performance, limit how many times you see an ad, and prevent fraud and abuse. Personalized advertising is only shown after you provide consent where required by law (for example in the EEA and UK).
- Speech processing — Speech recognition and voice processing happen locally in your browser using the Web Speech API. Your voice recordings are not stored or transmitted to our servers. Audio is processed on your device for the duration of each practice session and is discarded when the session ends.
- Push notifications — If you choose to enable daily reminders, your browser subscription endpoint is stored so we can send notifications. This endpoint does not contain your name or email.
- Server logs — Our hosting provider (Vercel) may automatically retain standard technical server logs such as IP addresses, browser information, and request timestamps for security, troubleshooting, and abuse prevention.
Legal Bases and Your Consent
Where the law requires it (including the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the UK GDPR), we request your consent before setting advertising or analytics cookies. You can accept or reject non-essential cookies through the consent banner. You may withdraw or change your choice at any time by clearing the “speakbetter-cookie-consent” entry in your browser’s local storage, after which the banner will appear again.
How Google Uses Your Data
Google’s advertising and analytics cookies are governed by Google’s own policies. Local Storage
The only data stored on your device by us is a single localStorage entry for your cookie consent preference. This is not a cookie — it is a simple flag that prevents the cookie banner from showing on every visit. You can clear it anytime through your browser settings.
Third-Party Services
SpeakNow is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may collect standard server logs (IP address, request timestamp, page URL) as part of their normal hosting operations. These logs are retained per Vercel’s standard practices and are not directly accessible to us. Advertising and analytics are provided by Google as described above.
Data Retention
Because we do not create user accounts, we retain no long-term personal profile about you. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for as long as necessary for security and operational purposes. Advertising and analytics data are retained according to Google’s retention policies, which you can review and control through your Google Account settings.
International Transfers
If you access SpeakNow from outside the United States, please be aware that Google and our hosting provider may process data in the United States or other countries. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards including Google’s certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Children’s Privacy
SpeakNow is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). Because we do not require accounts or collect personal information, the risk of inadvertent collection is minimal. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, email hi@speaknow.co.in. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.
