Clear pronunciation matters more than a big vocabulary. People understand you when sounds are right. Here is a home routine.
1. Minimal pairs
Minimal pairs are words that differ by one sound: "ship" vs "sheep", "bat" vs "bet". Say each pair slowly. Record. The SpeakNow minimal-pairs tool scores your accuracy.
2. Shadowing
Play a short English clip. Repeat immediately, copying rhythm and stress. Do not translate. Just echo. Five minutes daily trains your mouth muscles.
3. Tongue twisters
"She sells sea shells." "Red lorry yellow lorry." Start slow, then speed up. They fix tricky sounds like s, r, l, th.
4. The "th" sound
Indians often say "dis" for "this". Put tongue between teeth: "this, that, three, think". Practice 10 times.
5. Record and compare
Use your phone. Say a sentence. Play it. Compare with a native audio. Note the gap.
Weekly plan
- Mon: minimal pairs (ship/sheep)
- Tue: shadowing (1 clip)
- Wed: tongue twisters
- Thu: "th" sounds
- Fri: record a 1-min story
- Sat: review weak sounds
- Sun: rest
In 30 days your speech will be noticeably clearer. The SpeakNow pronunciation tool gives instant feedback so you never practise wrong.
